Hi! My name is Jess Schneider. I am originally from New York, about an hour or so north of the city. I studied journalism in college at SUNY Purchase, but spent most of my time exploring my love for theater and creative writing. After college, I committed to 2 years of National Service with Americorps in Texas, where I spent one year as a freshmen English tutor and mentor to students and the following year teaching an after school program to high school juniors on college access and preparation. I was accepted to Penn GSE's Teacher Education Program half way through my second year with Americorps, but decided to defer from the program for a year. During that year, I was working as a teacher assistant/ college prep assistant at a public high school in Texas. All of those experiences helped me to understand how difficult, rewarding, exciting and creative the process of being a teacher could be.
As a student and student teacher with Penn GSE's Teacher Education Program, I'd like to share my experiences with you, ranging from my struggles to my successes to the delicious meals I have in between! I want you to understand what it is like for me to balance my life as a student teacher, a graduate student, and a 20- something living in Philadelphia! Keep in mind while some of what I experience, feel and go through could be considered universal, this blog is about my unique experiences and expresses my personal views. It does not necessarily reflect those of GSE.
Thanks for stopping by!
